His Will and Not My Own

In January of 2015, when I was 15 years old, I felt like God was calling me to serve on a mission trip in Memphis, TN.  Leading up to the trip, there were many times when I doubted if I should go.  I would always pray and God would answer by giving me peace about my decision to go.  I remember the Sunday before my departure debating with myself whether this was the right timing for this trip.  After the service, the pastor had our church members pray for the mission team, and God answered my doubts again by telling me that I was going to Memphis.  My personal relationship with Jesus grew a lot during the trip because it was the first time in my life that I fully relied on God for strength and guidance.  One of the scriptures that helped me a lot throughout that week was Proverbs 3:5-6.

Over the course of your life God is going to call upon you to further His will.  How are you going to answer Him?  More than likely, God is calling you outside of your comfort zone, but God does this to make you fully dependent on Him.  Fear, doubt, and worry may creep in when one is called by God.  However, it is important to remember that these feelings do not come from God (1 Corinthians 14:33).  God has a perfect plan for your life and He will bless you if you obey Him (Deuteronomy 28:1-2).  Never be afraid to answer God’s call even when it’s outside of your comfort zone.

God will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but He does this so we rely on Him and not ourselves (1 Corinthians 10:13).  No matter how strong we think we are, without God we are going to fail.  If I gave into my doubts and fears back in 2015, I would have missed out on what God was trying to teach me. God has the ability to call any of His children to serve Him.  They have to be ready to receive His call.   We serve a big God.  In order to experience His purpose for us, we must be willing to submit to His will and not our own (Psalm 40:8).

Prayer:
You are an Awesome God who I can always rely on in all situations.  Please help me to be open to Your calling for my life.  I pray that I follow Your will for me and not my own.  Thank You for Your faithfulness, even when I doubt or question Your call.  Amen
